Shielded Metal Arc Welding · SMAW
Simple, portable stick welding — a flux-coated electrode that lays its own shielding as it burns, at home on heavier structural work.
We run a wide range of welding equipment from reputed brands like Sparc Technologies and Panasonic, and our highly skilled team can translate your design into a precision-finished item. MIG and TIG welding on stainless steel, aluminium and mild steel lets us offer competitive prices and fast turnaround for both custom items and series production.
The proper name for arc welding is SMAW or MMAW — Shielded (or Manual) Metal Arc Welding. You use an electrode, a length of filler wire about a foot long coated in flux. As the rod is consumed, the flux burns off and forms a shielding gas that protects the weld.
Arc welding is frequently referred to as stick or covered-electrode welding, and it's among the most widely used welding processes — dependable and portable for heavier structural joints.
- Simple, inexpensive, portable equipment
- Electrode provides and regulates its own flux
- Lower sensitivity to wind and drafts than gas-shielded processes
- All-position capability
